360° video and VR

The research vessel Dr. Fridtjof Nansen seen from above, at sea

Some places your audience will never get to. A research vessel in the Atlantic, a laboratory at sea, the deck at night while the trawl comes up. Virtual reality puts them there — and turns a programme report into fifteen minutes people remember.

Stereoscopic 360° filming

We shoot in 3D 360°, on location — often in cramped, moving or badly lit spaces, where the camera has to disappear. Each scene gets its own narration, and the whole thing is graded and finished like any of our films.

Interactive, not just immersive

Scenes are linked by hotspots, a map shows where you are, and short 2D clips — interviews, explanations — open inside the 360° view. Visitors choose their own route, and stay longer because of it.

Delivered where your audience is

The same experience runs in a web browser, navigated with the mouse; on a phone slotted into an inexpensive cardboard viewer; and as a native app for Meta Quest headsets, for events and exhibitions. Nothing to install for the web version — a link, or a QR code on a poster, is enough.

Case study

On board the R/V Dr. Fridtjof Nansen

For the EAF-Nansen Programme — FAO, with Norway and the Institute of Marine Research — we built two VR experiences of the research vessel Dr. Fridtjof Nansen, so that the people the programme works for can walk its decks without ever boarding it: the bridge, the acoustic centre, the fish and plankton labs, the engine control room, the aft deck at night as the net comes up.

Around twenty 360° scenes, each with its own narration, linked by hotspots and a map of the ship; short interviews with the scientists on board open inside the scenes. One version runs on the web, at nansenvr.com — in 2D on a computer, or in a VR viewer on a phone. The other is a native application for Meta Quest headsets.
