Nimble Fingers

2015Feature documentaryVietnam

Nimble fingers are those of the Vietnamese women workers who assemble the products of the world’s biggest electronics brands. Bay, one of thousands of young migrant workers who have come from the villages to the Thang Long Industrial Park on the outskirts of Hanoi, tells the story of factory life through her animated drawings: the rhythm of production, the tight control on the shop floor, the dreams and fears of a girl her age. Her return to her Muong village for the Tet holiday reveals how far a generation moving from the countryside into industrial society has drifted from its roots — and pushes Bay to look for a path of her own.
